Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,I,C – East Northport) today announced that starting on September 2 the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) will be offering a $3 million rebate program specifically for the purchase of high-efficiency refrigerators and washing machines.
“According to the Consortium for Energy Efficiency, a national energy nonprofit, the refrigerator is the single biggest power consumer in most households,” said Raia. “That works out to about 15 percent of residential electricity usage. Purchasing an energy-efficient fridge or washing machine is a great way to reduce your utility bills while doing something to improve the environment.”
Rebates of $350 will be available for high-efficiency refrigerators and $250 for high-efficiency washing machines that meet Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) super-efficiency standards. Applications will be available on a special website to be launched prior to the kickoff date or by calling 1-877- NY-SMART (877-697-6278). Any purchases made before September 2, 2011, are not eligible for rebates. The assemblyman also noted that rebates will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis for completed applications and will continue at NYSERDA’s discretion.
For any legislative questions or concerns, or to learn more about the rebate program, please call Assemblyman Raia’s office at 631-261-4151.
