Raia: Pitch In To Help Your Neighbors This Holiday Season
Assemblyman to hold collection drives as cold winter months approach
November 4, 2011
Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,I,C – East Northport) will be collecting coats and gifts as part of his annual coat drive and Toys for Tots collection. He is encouraging the community to take part in helping their neighbors over the next few months. The coat drive, a partnership between Raia and Copenhagen Bakery, provides Long Island families in need with warm coats for the winter. The Toys for Tots program aims to collect new, unwrapped toys during the holidays each year, and distribute the toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. “Families are tightening their purse strings even more, especially with the economy showing little improvement as the holiday season approaches,” said Raia. “Families are still recovering as a result of Hurricane Irene, and as the weather turns colder, it’s critical that we come together as a community to lend a helping hand, whether it be dropping off a new, unwrapped toy, or donating a coat. Helping families in need stay warm, or make a child’s Christmas wish come true, is what the holidays are all about.” Donations can be dropped off at the assemblyman’s district office located at 75 Woodbine Avenue, Northport. For questions, please call the office at 631-261-4151.
