Rabbitt Responds To State Of State Address
January 6, 2010

“Today’s State of the State address from Governor Paterson reminds me of the French expression for ‘staircase wit’ – when you find the right words only after it is too late to use them effectively,” said Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt (R,I,C-Greenwood Lake).

“The governor’s speech made several positive points about the need to reduce our ballooning budget deficit, cut the joblessness that is eroding the Hudson Valley’s ability to compete statewide, and finally return ethical standards to the most dysfunctional state government in the nation. But last year’s broken promises and $8.5 billion in tax increases should remind all New Yorkers that actions, not words, count most when families can afford Albany’s missteps least. As for Governor Paterson’s staircase wit, opportunity may have already left the room, and the party’s over.”
