Rabbitt Encourages Residents To Buy Local, Support Local Farms
June 8, 2010

As part of her Buy Local-Shop Local initiative, Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt (R,C,I – Greenwood Lake) is encouraging residents to support their local farms and food producers and today she took that message to the state Capitol as part of the Assembly Minority Conference’s annual Dairy Day.

“We all know how important it is to buy local and today, as we gather to recognize the hard work and significant economic contribution of our dairy industry, I would like to encourage all residents across the state and particularly back home in Orange and Rockland counties to support their local dairy farmers and cheese producers. Think about where your daily glass of milk comes from and how large of an impact it would be to make one small change to buy that milk from a local farmer,” said the assemblywoman.

Throughout New York state there are roughly 6,400 dairy farms, ranking the state third in the nation in dairy production. According to the Northeast Dairy Foods Association, there are also more than 100 dairy product processing and manufacturing plans statewide which produce products such as yogurt, ice cream and butter.
