Budget Spends Too Much, Taxes Too Much, And Leaves Too Many Unanswered Questions
A Statement from Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt (R,C,I-Greenwood Lake)
July 1, 2010

“When we began this process more than 3 months ago, we knew there was a $9 billion deficit to close. Despite this, the governor’s proposed plan was the most expensive spending plan in state history. The legislative leaders have added to the governor’s spending without creating additional cuts, forcing taxes to go up to the tune of more than $960 million this year and another $1.75 billion next. This evening, during the debate on the bill, the Chairman of the Assembly Ways and Means Committee stated that he did not know how much this plan spends in total, taxes in total, or how much of the deficit will be left remaining. This irresponsibility must not be disregarded now that ‘the budget is passed.’ Albany leaders owe it to the people of New York to ensure that this budget is balanced and meaningful budget reforms are enacted to prevent such a disastrous process from happening again.”
