Cost Of Special Session Equals State Employee Salary
A Statement from Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt (R,C,I-Greenwood Lake)
July 29, 2010
With talk of state layoffs from the Executive Chamber looming over the state Capitol, it is even more appalling that the majorities’ leadership refused to heed the governor’s call for another emergency session. While the cost for just one house to return to Albany is roughly the equivalent of an average rank-and-file state employee’s annual salary, the reality is if a state budget is not enacted and other vital issues, such as job creation and education funding are left unresolved, many more state employees could lose their jobs. It is nothing less than absurd that so-called “leaders” would refuse to come to the table, therefore, wasting the money spent bringing the rest of the legislators to Albany while they stay on vacation.
