Rabbitt Opposes Closing Of Bellvale Post Office
Statement from Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt (R,C,I-Greenwood Lake)
August 19, 2010
The Bellvale Post Office is set to close. The closure will result in a change in service – creating issues for many community members. Those who want to continue using the 10912 zip code will have to travel a good deal farther to get their mail. Rural delivery will work for some others, but many will be left in a predicament.
“I oppose this decision because it clearly will create difficulties for the people of Bellvale,” said Rabbitt. “This closure puts an undue strain on the community. Many will be forced to change their zip code; others will have to travel to get their mail. I implore the U.S. Postal Service to find an expedient and equitable solution to this problem in order to minimize any inconvenience to the community.”
The Bellvale post office has been serving the hamlet of Bellvale for 160 years. Currently, options are being weighed for replacing the post office and the U.S. Postal Service is considering putting a cluster box in the affected area to ease the transition.
