A History Of Mismanagement: The MTA
Assemblywoman Rabbitt Stands Against Another Bailout
May 5, 2011

Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt ( R,I,C – Greenwood Lake) received word that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will again be asking lawmakers for another bailout, this time to the tune of $1.7 billion in capital funds.

“I am outraged to hear that MetroNorth and the MTA is asking once again for elected officials to siphon taxpayer dollars toward a continuously faulty system,” Rabbitt stated. “The MTA already absorbs 99 percent of its operational funds from dedicated taxes and fees, including the payroll tax which is severely hurting our local economy.”

“New Yorkers, particularly in the Hudson Valley, already have been slammed with added surcharges and fees to help the MTA,” Rabbitt argued. “Now, they are asking us to make New Yorkers dig deeper into their empty pockets to pull out $1.7 billion in assistance. This issue has become a recurring problem and not enough is being done by the comptroller.”

“We need to force the powers that be to enact an immediate forensic audit of the MTA’s entire financial record,” Rabbitt stated. “New Yorkers should not continue to pay for the continuation of a problematic system. This money pit must be sealed.”

To join Annie Rabbitt’s fight for an audit of the MTA, please contact her office to sign her petition calling for the immediate, forensic audit. To request a petition please e-mail rabbitta@assembly.state.ny.us or call her office in Goshen at 845-291-3631.
