Stop Unfair Gas Prices

December 12, 2014

YES! I support Assemblyman Anthony Brindisiís push to stop unfair gas prices because consumers shouldnít be exploited based on their location.

While gas prices have been dropping prices in the Utica-Rome metro area remain inflated when compared to other regions across the state. Why should someone in the Mohawk Valley region pay more per gallon than someone in Syracuse or Albany? This is unacceptable! Albany must take action now!

We have seen that the regionís gas is consistently one of priciest in the state, forcing consumers to pay upwards of 40 cents or more than other nearby metro areas; this is a product of zone pricing. Zone pricing occurs when gasoline retailers adjust price based on competition and location rather than on natural market occurrences such as crude oil, vending and transportation costs. This practice is not only unfair to consumers but also to the local economy which will be affected if consumers cut back on goods and services to adjust for the higher gas prices.

Thatís why I have spearheaded legislation that has been passed by the NYS Assembly that would level gas prices across the state by giving the Attorney General more power to take action against wholesalers who charge consumers based mainly on geographic location. However, it has only passed the Assembly.

Enough is enough! Join me in my fight to change the Zone Pricing Laws and end the artificially inflated the gas prices that has gone on for far too long.
