Petition: Improve the Volunteer Firefighters’ Benefit Law to Include Coverage for Conditions Incurred Due to their Performance of Duties

October 7, 2015

We support Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi’s sponsorship of A.05518, which provides that any melanoma or condition of cancer which results in total or partial disability or death to a volunteer firefighter who had previously passed a physical without any evidence of such a condition, should be considered presumptive evidence that it was incurred in the performance and discharge of duty, and these conditions should be including in the existing coverage portion of the Volunteer Firefighters’ Benefit Law (VFBL).

We urge members of the New York State Assembly to support this much-needed legislation to amend the VFBL.
