Assembly Budget Restores Funding to Centro of Oneida
March 22, 2012
Assemblyman Anthony J. Brindisi (D-Utica) announced that the Assembly budget proposal restored $25,000 in funding the executive proposed to cut from Centro of Oneida, which provides needy families working in Oneida County with gas cards and enhanced public services.
“This is the wrong time to cut vital programs like Centro, when so many of our hardworking families are still struggling and gas prices are so high,” Assemblyman Brindisi said. “The Assembly budget proposal protects Centro through a restoration of funds, and I’ll do all I can to ensure the funding is secured in the final budget.”
Centro began operating in April 2005, after Oneida County joined the Central New York Regional Transportation Authority. Since then, it’s been providing the community with essential bus service for the cities of Utica and Rome and the towns of Kirkland, Whitestown and New Hartford, Assemblymember Brindisi noted.
