Assemblymember Anthony J. Brindisi (D-Utica) is encouraging local governments to apply for a grant made available through the Local Government efficiency (LGe) Grant program included in the 2012-2013 state budget (Ch. 53 of 2012).
“As a member of the Standing Committee on local governments, it is my goal to help ensure that local governments are running as smoothly and efficiently as possible,” Assemblymember Brindisi said. “The LGe Grant program can provide municipalities with the necessary tools to do so.”
The Local Government Efficiency Grant Program is a competitive program that provides financial incentives and assistance to municipalities that want to re-organize or consolidate. The grant is aimed at helping local government officials identify and implement the best practices, so that they may cut their expenses and increase efficiency in providing vital programs and services. Local governments can apply for a grant to help them cover the costs of such efforts. To that end, $400,000 has been allocated by the Department of State to develop plans for implementation, with $3.6 million being designated for implementation projects.
“One of my top priorities has always been to make life less taxing for Mohawk Valley families,” Assemblymember Brindisi said. “I will work tirelessly to cut the cost of local government, which will also enable hardworking local families to keep more of their money where it belongs – in their pockets.”
