Utica – Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi is encouraging anyone interested in a career with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to sign up for the latest exam for the job of Correction Officer.
The next examination will be held on April 13th, and the deadline to sign up is February 25th. Anyone interested may apply for the exam online, or download examination information and applications at the Department of Civil Service website at www.cs.ny.gov/exams. Additional information about the position of correction officer is available on the website for the Department of Corrections at www.doccs.ny.gov.
“The Governor has made it a priority to diversify the workforce, so I would especially encourage women and minorities to consider taking this exam,” Brindisi said. “These are good jobs. Correction Officer Trainees begin at about $39,000 a year, and they receive a two thousand dollar increase after six months. Following the one year training period, the salary increases to about $47,000 a year.”
Brindisi says anyone who would like additional information on the exam may call his Utica district office at (315) 732-1055.
