Assemblymember Brindisi Helps Secure Additional Funding for Utica City School District
Funding will help save a number of teaching positions
May 1, 2013

Assemblymember Anthony J. Brindisi (D-Utica) announced that he was able to secure an additional $210,000 in education aid for the Utica City School District. This funding will help save teaching positions and prevent further layoffs that could compromise the quality of education for local students.

“I fought for this additional funding because our children deserve a quality education and Utica taxpayers simply can’t afford to make up the difference,” Assemblymember Brindisi said “Utica classrooms are currently overcrowded, making our teacher’s jobs harder. This extra funding will help keep more teachers in the classroom and provide a better education for our kids.”

During this year’s state budget process, Assemblymember Brindisi was able to secure almost $4.6 million in additional state aid for the Utica City School District, allowing the district to restore some teaching positions. With the additional $210,000 in funding recently secured and positions being filled thanks to the early retirement incentive, Utica City School District can now work on getting more teachers back in the classrooms and providing students the quality education they need, Assemblymember Brindisi added.

“I am extremely happy to receive the additional funds from Assemblymember Brindisi,” said Utica City School District Superintendent Bruce Karam. “It comes at a time when we desperately need this funding to restore teachers in order to reduce our class sizes. This is great for the kids, our teaching staffs and our school district, and I appreciate Mr. Brindisi's hard work in securing these additional funds.”
