Brindisi: Rome Elks Lodge Joins a Select Group
June 24, 2013

(ROME) – Assemblymember Anthony Brindisi says Rome Elks Lodge No. 96 on West Liberty Street is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The State Board of Historic Preservation recommended the building be listed on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places earlier this year. After being nominated, the application for the National Register was reviewed, and earlier this month, the 1848 structure was officially placed on the Register.

“Besides helping to raise awareness about the significance of this building, listing on the register allows the Elks to apply for State Historic Preservation matching grants,” Brindisi said. “This building played an important role in the history of Rome and the Mohawk Valley, and this listing will help protect it for future generations.”
