Welcome
Welcome to my New York State Assembly Web page.
You can use this page to easily access information about the work I do in the Assembly to build a stronger, healthier, vibrant and more business-friendly New York.
Since I joined the Assembly in September 2011, I’ve worked diligently to revitalize the economy in the Mohawk Valley and provide relief for our hardworking families. Some of the initiatives I helped pass include:
Making life less taxing
Personal income taxes for middle-class families are now the lowest they’ve been in 58 years and as of April 1, 2012, state sales tax on clothing and shoes under $110 has been eliminated. Many of our communities were devastated during two major floods last year. New York State has appropriated $430,274 for Oneida County so taxpayers won’t be stuck footing the bill for the local share of repair costs. The state will also be taking over all Medicaid administrative costs, saving taxpayers even further. While this is a good start, there is still work to do. That’s why the first set of bills I sponsored would immediately freeze local Medicaid expenditures and usher in a gradual state assumption of all non-federal Medicaid costs (A. 2285; A.8644), it’s time for Albany to stop passing the buck. Keeping and creating jobs in the Mohawk Valley
Creating jobs is a top priority, which is why I fought to make sure we set aside $220 million for the next round of Regional Economic Development grants, $5 million for military base retention efforts and another $600,000 for base redevelopment. On top of that, our region will receive $7.5 million in NY Works infrastructure projects, improving the safety of our roads and bridges while creating construction jobs. SUNYIT has also received $500,000 to hire additional staff in the science, technology, engineering and math fields (STEM), to complement investments already made to bring nanotechnology to the Mohawk Valley. Keeping our families safe
New York now has the most expansive DNA databank in the country, helping to ensure criminals are put behind bars so they cannot get away with committing crimes (Ch. 19 of 2012). I have also introduced a set of bills to toughen sex offender parole procedures against recurring sex offenders. (A.8914; A.8915; A.8916; A.8917; A.9229) Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or issues you would like to address. I am always open to hearing new ideas and I look forward to working with you to help make our community a better place to live and raise a family. Thank you for visiting.
