Assemblywoman Lifton Secures $100,000 in Additional School Aid for Groton
Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton (D/WF- Cortland/Tompkins) announced that she has secured additional unrestricted discretionary funds for the Groton school district.
“This extra funding not only allows the leaders of the Groton Central School District (GCS) to acquire necessary teaching tools, but also will help relieve the burden on local property taxes,” Lifton said.
“I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation for the new allocation of $100,000 for our district,” said Dr. Brenda Myers, Superintendent of GCS. “This money will make an enormous difference for our students, staff, and community. Improving student achievement and accelerating the talents of our students is our primary goal. Thank you for helping GCS with our mission to encourage, enable, and expect excellence for every child.”
Lifton and Superintendent Myers said this funding will specifically be used for purchasing additional books for the literacy program, purchasing instruments for the music program and improving the use of instructional technology to help students learn. Also, to support the district’s long term facility plan and to help local taxpayers, a portion of the funding will be dedicated to the recently-approved capital reserve fund.
