Assemblyman Bill Nojay (R,I-Pittsford) is opposing yet another attempt by New York City politicians to tax struggling Upstate families. The latest assault on working- class families comes in the form of the Multichannel Video Programming Distributor Act, Bill # A5118. This bill will place a 5 percent excise tax on all direct broadcast satellite services. It is yet another tax on the families of Upstate New York.
“This bill is targeted to take money from rural Upstate families who do not have cable services available to them. It is yet another money grab to pay for the New York City agenda of gun control and subsidized college tuition for illegal immigrants,” said Nojay. “This is a tax increase pure and simple – a tax on struggling Upstate residents who are already burdened with oppressive property tax rates. When will it end? Hopefully, before everyone that can afford to leave the State has done so.”
“Instead of imposing further financial burdens on the working-class families of Upstate New York, we should be reducing our highest-in-the-nation taxes, eliminating unfunded mandates that force property taxes into the stratosphere, and encouraging businesses to come here and create jobs,” said Nojay.
