Summer Fun Is Easily Found In Our Own Community
July 21, 2006

Our region is rich in a heritage known across the state and nation. As a result, our community often becomes a tourist destination for many from outside the area. Instead of taking your summer vacations elsewhere, I encourage everyone here to explore what we often take for granted.

Staying in this area this summer means avoiding high gas prices for long road trips, costly hotel rooms and exhaustive travel time. The Finger Lakes region sports many activities and events to suit everyone – right here in our backyard. The region is home to some of the best fishing in the Northeast, historic places, premium shopping, water parks, museums, horse racing, golf, boat cruises and dozens of wineries.

Here are just a few Western New York places and vacation ideas for you and your family to explore.

Susan B. Anthony House

Located in Rochester, the Anthony house is a national historic landmark as the home of the women’s suffrage movement leader and site of her arrest for voting in 1872. The landmark includes a variety of exhibits and a museum shop, and is next door to the “Let’s Have Tea” statue of Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglas.

Brockport Summer Arts Festival

The village of Brockport each year hosts a terrific arts and crafts festival that welcomes tens of thousands of visitors to our community. Featuring live music and food, the event also has more than 100 arts and crafts vendors along with events for the entire family to enjoy. This year’s festivities take place August 12 and 13.

Fishing and Boating

Western New York is home to some of the most bountiful lakes and rivers for anglers. Lake Ontario provides an unforgettable experience of boating and fishing in one of the world’s largest bodies of fresh water.

These are just a few ideas to get you on your way to a great summer vacation in our region. For more information on places to visit this summer, please do not hesitate to contact my district office by calling (585) 225-4190 to ask for a New York tourism travel guide, or visit www.iloveny.com. Summer fun is right here in our community.
