Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I – Greece) today announced that the sex offender registry’s alert system will start sending notifications regarding the locations of sex offenders to parents and other concerned individuals who sign up for the program.
“Allowing parents to track the locations of local sex offenders is an issue I have fought hard for,” stated Reilich. “The accessibility of the list through frequent updates via e-mail, phone, text and fax allows concerned parents easier access to this important information.”
Assembly Bill 1242-B became law last June but is only now in effect. It allows residents of New York to register with the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to receive notifications by e-mail, text, fax or phone when Level 2 or 3 sex offenders move into the areas specified by the person requesting the notifications.
Individuals can register for updates through the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) web site at www.criminaljustice.state.ny.us.
