Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece) today announced that the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) and the New York State Police will be holding forums across the state on the newly passed NY SAFE Act, known as the new gun-ban legislation. The Monroe County forum will be held at the Rochester Public Safety Building, 185 Exchange Street, Rochester, NY, TONIGHT, at 5 p.m.
Reilich also has called on DCJS, the State Police and the other parties involved, to host a second round of forums so the public can be better prepared to fully discuss the newly-passed law, which Reilich voted against.
“It is outrageous that the public wasn’t given sufficient notice about these forums. This simply isn’t fair to firearm owners or to those across the state who will be impacted by this law,” said Reilich. “The public has a right to voice their opinion and ask questions. The process in which this law came about was questionable at best, and now the manner they intend to explain it is equally insulting to not only responsible firearm owners, but every resident of this state. I encourage all those interested to attend tonight’s meeting.”
“I respectfully call on the Division of Criminal Justice Services, the New York State Police and others to hold a second round of forums on the NY SAFE Act,” said Reilich. “Complete transparency is what the public expects from their government and they should be given nothing less. The public deserves a chance and advance notice to better prepare for a forum, especially on a topic of this magnitude.”
