Statement from Assemblyman Bob Oaks
November 14, 2007
Governor Spitzer’s decision to withdraw his dangerous and misguided plan to issue driver’s licenses to illegal aliens is a great victory for New Yorkers and our entire nation. It is sad that it took the governor weeks of low poll numbers, countless citizens speaking out in opposition and a statewide petition drive to force him to reluctantly pull back his reckless plan, but we have succeeded. Hopefully, the governor will now start to focus on working with the Legislature to address critical issues that face our state, like the upstate economy, property tax relief and the safety of our citizens, now that we are no longer at risk from his (ill-advised) license plan.
