Oaks Hosts Correction Officers Task Force Forum

August 21, 2009

This week Assemblyman Robert C. Oaks (R,C – Macedon) joined his Assembly Minority colleagues in hosting a forum on workforce issues in the correctional system at the Cayuga County office building in Auburn. Included in the discussion were representatives from the New York State Correction Officers and Police Benevolent Association, Auburn State Prison, Cayuga Correctional Facility and Butler Correctional Facility.

“Hearing testimony directly from correction officers was extremely helpful to all of the legislators in attendance,” said Oaks. Suggestions were offered on saving state dollars without compromising the safety of officers and support staff working in the prisons. Discussion also focused on the status and future of the Butler minimum security facility.

“This forum, which is one of several being held around the state, will help us develop a report to provide critical information and recommendations on the correctional system workforce,” concluded Assemblyman Oaks.
