Budget Gap Grows With Albany’s Dysfunction
A legislative statement by Assemblyman Bob Oaks (R,C-Macedon)
November 10, 2009
The legislature’s refusal to act on a deficit reduction plan today is a failure by the legislative majorities that now puts the state in greater financial peril with each passing day. The governor brought the legislature back to Albany to deal with the state’s fiscal crisis. I agree with the governor that the problem we have is real and needs to be dealt with now. I am disgusted by the inaction in Albany and I encourage the governor to call another special session to deal with our deficit. The Assembly Minority Conference has offered legitimate alternatives to the governor’s proposed cuts to limit the impact of his proposal to school districts and healthcare cuts. We need to make cuts, but we cannot solve the state’s fiscal problems by adding a greater burden on local property taxpayers.
