Assemblyman invites all interested children to participate
June 10, 2010
Assemblyman Bob Oaks (R,C-Macedon) today announced that he will be conducting his annual Summer Reading Challenge throughout the months of July and August. Students who read at least 40 days during those months will receive a New York State Assembly Excellence of Reading Certificate. “The Summer Reading Challenge provides children the opportunity to stay active in their learning throughout the year,” said Oaks. “Studies have shown that children who read throughout the year do better in school.” The Summer Reading Challenge is open to all children of middle and elementary school ages. Private, public, and home-schooled children are encouraged to participate. “I encourage parents and guardians to get their children involved in the summer reading program,” said Oaks. “This program can help parents develop closer bonds with their children and create positive memories of learning and growth that will last a lifetime.” The reading challenge is sponsored by Assemblyman Bob Oaks in cooperation with the New York State Library’s Statewide Summer Reading Program.
