LYONS – Assemblyman and Ranking Minority Member of the Ways and Means Committee Robert Oaks (R,C-Macedon) wants to remind families beginning to think about back-to-school shopping that there is no state or local sales tax on clothing or shoes under $110 in Wayne County. That's a savings of at least four percent on what you would spend elsewhere.

Wayne is one of the few counties in the state and the only one in the region where there is no local sales tax on those purchases.

There are several local shops in addition to the big box stores within Wayne County that sell clothing and shoes appropriate for youngsters returning to school. Assemblyman Oaks suggests looking for what you need first in stores within the county before visiting malls in city suburbs.

“Please try to keep your dollars local and support our businesses. The sales tax break makes that a little easier,” the assemblyman said. “When you spend your money locally, instead of traveling out-of-county, we all benefit.”
