In Summer Heat, Tenants and Advocates Rally for Affordable Housing
On August 19, 2009, several elected officials, led by Assembly Housing Committee Chair Vito Lopez, tenants, and housing advocates gathered in the sweltering heat of midsummer on the steps of City Hall to rally for affordable housing funding.
The rally was organized to call for inclusion of $500 million in the State’s 2010-2011 capital budget for affordable housing programs and creation of an Empire State Housing Investment Fund. Participating organizations included Housing Here and Now, Habitat for Humanity, and the Empire State Housing Alliance. Cameron Peterson represented Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh, who is on vacation this week.
