Interfaith Service for Peace and 9/11 Remembrance

September 8, 2009

On the evening of September 8, 2009, Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh joined local residents for an interfaith service for peace, in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the attacks on September 11, 2001. Rabbi Laurence Sebert of Town and Village Synagogue, Father Joy Mampilly of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, and Pastor Brooke Swertfager of Christ Lutheran Church presided over the annual event; Imam Hafiz Choudhury of Madina Masjid participated in planning the service, but was unable to attend because of a scheduling conflict. Community residents, including Kavanagh and former Assemblymember Steven Sanders, gathered for the service at Immaculate Conception Church on East 14th Street.
