Kavanagh Joins Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance to Salute Heroes of the Harbor
October 21, 2009

On October 21, 2009, Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh attended the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance (MWA) “Heroes of the Harbor” event at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers. The festive evening honored three heroes who have demonstrated their commitment to making the waterfront throughout New York City accessible and usable. Kavanagh’s 74th Assembly District includes about 3 miles of the East River waterfront, with varying degrees of public access.

MWA saluted the Rockefeller Brothers Fund for providing civic and philanthropic leadership, recognizing the unmet potential of the City’s waterfront, and catalyzing its transformation into a site for public recreation and access; Al Butzel for his lifelong commitment to fighting for public use of the waterfront and helping to create remarkable New York parks, including Hudson River Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and Governors Island; and Frank McDonough, President of the New York Shipping Association, for his contributions to the City’s waterways as a harbor advocate, industry leader, and environmentalist.
