Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh joined State Senator Liz Krueger, Assemblymembers Jonathan Bing, Dick Gottfried, and Micah Kellner, representatives of City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Councilmember Dan Garodnick, and members of Manhattan Community Boards 5, 6, and 8 for a lively roundtable discussion with the new leadership of the State Liquor Authority (SLA) on December 8, 2009.
The event, convened by Senator Krueger, brought together the community and new SLA Chair Dennis Rosen, Deputy CEO Michael Jones, and Deputy Commissioner of Licensing Kerri O’Brien to discuss nightlife concerns, and possible legislative and policy changes that would aim to make the SLA more transparent and efficient. Assemblymember Kavanagh has previously called for New York City to have greater local control over liquor licensing and increased funding for investigators and other oversight staff.
During the roundtable, Kavanagh thanked the agency’s new leadership for making dialogue with our community a priority at the outset of their tenure. The respective participants in the meeting will review the ideas presented by all sides and identify ways to move forward in the coming weeks.
