The holiday season is upon us once again and I would like to take this opportunity to share with you information about the opportunity for Finger Lakes residents to make a difference in the lives of children in our community. In collaboration with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, I am again pleased to help bring Toys for Tots to our region.
The U.S. Marine Corps Reserveís annual Toys for Tots program has the mission of collecting new, unwrapped toys to distribute as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community where the campaign is conducted. Every holiday season the program provides a message of joy and giving to millions of children across the country and here in New York. From now through Friday, December 15, residents of the Finger Lakes region can convey a message of hope this season by donating a gift to Toys for Tots at my district office at 607 W. Washington St, Suite 2, Geneva or one of the other drop-off locations, including:
- Canandaigua Veterans Affairs Hospital ĖVoluntary Service Office, Building 7, 400 Fort Hill Ave, Canandaigua, NY 14424;
- Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce, 113 S. Main St, Canandaigua, NY 14424;
- Arbyís Roast Beef Restaurant, 280 Hamilton St, Geneva, NY 14456.
Formed after World War II, the Toys for Tots program has grown into one of the leading Christmas-time charity efforts in the United States. Since the programís inception in 1947, Toys for Tots has brought joy to over 100 million children. Over the years the program grew to where it now collects and distributes, on average, 10 million new toys to 5 million needy children each year. While the size of the Toys for Tots program expanded, its primary focus stays the same: to be an active role in the development of our nationís youth by motivating children to grow into responsible, productive patriotic citizens and community leaders to help invest in creating a better tomorrow.
Please help me assist the Marine Corps Reserve provide these children with Christmas joy by donating your new, unwrapped toys to this very worthy charitable organization. For more information or to schedule a site collection before Dec. 15, please contact my district office at (315) 781-2030.
