It is my hope that everyone has the means to celebrate the holidays with those closest to them. Unfortunately, especially during these tough economic times, many families are struggling to make ends meet. That is why it is even more imperative this year that those who are able to help the less fortunate do exactly that.
Making a donation is a praiseworthy way to help prevent others from going to sleep hungry. The food banks located throughout our community are always in need of contributions. Please think about making a contribution to Foodlink of Rochester, which serves Ontario and Seneca counties. Visit their website for more information. If you live in Cayuga, Onondaga or Cortland County, consider donating to Food Bank of Central New York. You can visit them online for more information.
Donations can also be made to groups like the American Red Cross. These organizations know how to stretch a dollar to ensure your contribution is spent efficiently and effectively. By contributing, you are helping those who need it most.
Another way you can make a difference is by contributing to the United States Marine Corps Reserve’s annual Toys for Tots program. I am happy to work with the Marines again this year and was pleased to collect so many toys for children right here in the Finger Lakes and Central New York region.
As 2008 comes to a close, allow me to express what a distinct honor it has been to represent the people of the 129th Assembly District. I promise to continue working tirelessly to ensure our community has a loud and distinct voice in Albany. From my family to yours, I wish you a healthy and happy holiday season.
