March 26, 2010

Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,I,C-Canandaigua) is pictured (center) unveiling the final report of the Assembly Minority Conference’s Task Force on Workforce Issues in the Correctional System during a press conference in Albany. In June of 2009, Kolb formed the Task Force – Co-Chaired by Assemblymen Gary Finch and Joe Giglio – to explore ways to improve safety and security within state prisons and ensure the most efficient use of taxpayer dollars. The Task Force held 10 public forums in Albany, Alden, Auburn, Comstock, Fishkill, Gouverneur, Malone, New Windsor and Verona in the summer and fall of 2009, and the testimony received formed the basis of the report’s recommendations.

Pictured standing behind Kolb, from left to right, are Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun (R,C-Blooming Grove); Arthur Sciorra, Ogdensburg City Manager; Task Force Co-Chair Gary Finch (R,C,I-Springport); Mike Powers, Ogdensburg Councilman and member of the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association, Inc. (NYSCOPBA); Assemblyman Daniel J. Burling (R,C,I-Warsaw); Task Force Co-Chair Joe Giglio (R,I,C-Gowanda); Assemblyman Tony Jordan (R,C-Jackson); Assemblyman Dave Townsend (R,WF-Sylvan Beach); and Assemblyman Joel M. Miller (R,C,I-Poughkeepsie).
