Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan joined Assemblywoman Margaret Markey and members of the Dutch Kills Civic Association in a rally recently to help keep Engine 261 in Long Island City open. Mayor Bloomberg has slated this particular engine company to close.
Engine 261 serves the Long Island City community including fifteen neighborhood schools, two hospitals and several senior centers. According to the People’s Firehouse, Inc., Engine 261 has responded to over 1,300 medical emergencies from the year 2000 to present.
“I have written to Mayor Bloomberg and urged him to reconsider closing Engine 261’s doors. I will continue to advocate for Long Island City residents and Engine 261. The fight is not over,” said Nolan.
