Education Formula Shortchanges Central NY Schools
A statement from Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney (R,C,I- New Hartford)
March 31, 2011
Despite a new education funding formula, Oneida and Oswego schools are still being shortchanged by this year’s state budget. The final budget continues disproportional cuts per pupil for many of the schools in the 115th Assembly District, and, for this reason, I cannot support this portion of the state budget.
The residents of Oneida and Oswego counties need relief – property tax relief, sales tax relief, and meaningful mandate relief. We need to address pension reform, enact substantial Medicaid restructuring, and ensure Turning Stone pays their due taxes. Although the opportunity has been missed to address these vital issues as part of the state budget, I will continue working with lawmakers in both houses toward resolution on these issues as we continue through the remaining legislative session.
