May 9, 2011

Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney (R,C,I- New Hartford) is partnering with students from the Westmoreland School District to host a food drive to benefit local food pantries operated by the Central New York Veteran’s Outreach Center (CNYVOC) and Vet2Vet, a consumer/provider partnership veteran recovery program.

Donations can be made at either the Westmoreland School or Assemblywoman Tenney’s district office, located within the Westmoreland Central School complex, 5176 State Route 233 in Westmoreland.

“In these difficult economic times, it’s important as a community to come together to help with the simplest necessities for those who sacrificed so much to uphold our freedoms as Americans,” said Tenney. “I am proud to partner with the Westmoreland students and both of these wonderful veterans’ organizations which are doing so much to help our community and region.”

Central New York Veteran’s Outreach Center (CNYVOC) was formed by an Iraq war veteran who realized there was a lack of services for veterans in Upstate New York and formed the organization in light of such inadequacies. The services available through CNYVOC include, but are not limited to, housing assistance, healthcare assistance, legal aid, advocacy, employment assistance, and food pantries.

Vet2Vet , a part of the Compeer program, is a social program designed to bring veterans together for activities such as sporting events, workshops or simply just to have a conversation. The ultimate goal of Vet2Vet is to help empower veterans to combat the effects of post-traumatic stress and other combat-related illnesses.
