Assembly Member Daniel O’Donnell thanked Governor Cuomo today for his strong stance against Rabbi Noson Leiter’s inflammatory claims that Hurricane Sandy was a result of Marriage Equality’s passage in New York State.
I thank Governor Cuomo for his strong stance against Rabbi Noson Leiter’s outrageous comments connecting the damage from Hurricane Sandy to Marriage Equality’s passage in our great state.
Governor Cuomo’s statement shows true leadership for these difficult days. Especially in times of crisis we must recommit ourselves to equality and well-being for all our citizens, and Governor Cuomo has proven that he can live up to this imperative. As so many have noted, this hurricane has highlighted the overwhelming compassion and resilience of New Yorkers; Rabbi Leiter’s comments reflect the opposite qualities, demeaning both the suffering of Hurricane Sandy’s victims and the love of same sex couples living across our state. I am proud to work beside Governor Cuomo and our fellow New Yorkers to rebuild this state even better for everyone than it was before.
Assembly Member O’Donnell was the legislative sponsor for the Marriage Equality Act in New York, leading the Act to passage five times in the Assembly before it was signed into law in 2011.
