Assemblyman David Buchwald (D-Westchester) announced that the 2013-14 State Assembly budget proposal includes the city of White Plains in the NY Youth Works program. The program provides disadvantaged youth with job opportunities and provides local businesses with tax credits for hiring eligible youth. Assemblyman Buchwald has been fighting for White Plains to be included in the NY Youth Works program in the Assembly’s 2013-14 budget.
“Funding and resources from programs like NY Youth Works ensure that all White Plains youth will have the opportunity to build a bright and successful future,” Assemblyman Buchwald said. “NY Youth Works will provide training and employment opportunities to youth from low-income families, which will help give them the skills needed to find future employment and open up new career opportunities. This is an important program and I will continue to fight to make sure that it is included in the final budget.”
Prior to its inclusion in this year’s Assembly budget proposal, the city of White Plains had just missed the population threshold required to be included in the NY Youth Works program. Assemblyman Buchwald noted that in 2012, agencies like the White Plains Youth Bureau were forced to cut employment opportunities for the city’s youth by 17.5 percent because of cuts in state funding.
In addition to providing employment opportunities for disadvantaged youth in White Plains, NY Youth Works would also provide a boost to the local economy by providing local businesses with much-needed tax credits to hire and train new employees, Assemblyman Buchwald noted.
