State Releases Report Cards For Schools Statewide

Parents can look online to see how local schools size up to others

Assemblyman Dave McDonough today announced that the New York State Education Department has released report cards for schools statewide. This rating, called the New York State Testing and Accountability Reporting Tool (nySTART), is helpful because it allows parents to see whether their school made adequate yearly progress (AYP) and identifies the school’s accountability status. The report also contains information about the school’s performance on state assessments in English, mathematics, and science.

“I hope that parents across Long Island and throughout New York state take this opportunity to look at their school’s report card and evaluate whether they should be satisfied with the level of education children are getting there,” said Assemblyman McDonough. “I will certainly be looking at these report cards to determine if there is a way the state and school districts can work together to ensure that taxpayer dollars invested in education are spent more effectively.”

In addition to grading schools on a general level, the report also provides enrollment, demographic, attendance, suspension, dropout, teacher, assessment, accountability, graduation rate, post-graduate plan, career and technical education, and fiscal data for public and charter schools, districts, and the state.
