Biography

Edward J. Hennessey was elected to the 3rd Assembly District in November 2012. Prior to his election, Edward began his legal career as a prosecutor in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and served on the Brookhaven Town Council. Early in his private law practice, Edward served as General Counsel to several community groups such as Local 342, Long Island Public Service Employee Union & Trust, UMD, LIA and AFL-CIO. He now concentrates on Criminal Law, Personal Injury and Real Estate. From 1994 through 2005, Edward served as Brookhaven Town Councilman. During his time on the Board, he launched community visioning and inter-governmental responses and influenced regional planning priorities. In addition, he also implemented community planning recommendations with annual budget initiatives and adopted local laws to change land use. Edward graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Government and Politics from St. John’s University in 1984 and earned his Law Degree from Touro College in 1988. He is married to his wife Joan, and has two children, John Patrick, age 18, and Edward Joseph, age 14.
