Ra Reacts To Creation Of NYRA Reorganization Board

Assemblyman Ed Ra (Nassau County) today issued the following statement:

I applaud yesterday’s announcement by Governor Cuomo, Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver establishing a NYRA reorganization board. Action was needed to put NYRA back on its feet and ensure a horse racing industry in New York which treats its fans fairly and honestly.

Horse racing is an integral part of New York’s $46 billion tourism industry and it is essential that we ensure public faith in this system. I encourage the members of the reorganization board to act swiftly and return NYRA to its rightful place as a private, nonprofit entity. New York’s racing enthusiasts, thoroughbred breeders and horsemen deserve nothing less than the state’s commitment to continue the tradition of great horse racing at New York’s tracks.

I am pleased that action has been taken to move forward and restore integrity in New York’s racing community so that we all can enjoy I’ll Have Another’s pursuit of the Triple Crown.
