Albany, NY – After earning the title of state champions on the ice, the Suffern Mounties today earned the recognition of state lawmakers on the Assembly floor as Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee (D-Suffern) hosted and honored the hockey squad in the State Capitol.
“What these young men have accomplished through teamwork, commitment, and incredibly hard work is nothing short of inspiring,” Jaffee said. “Their victory in the state championship is a testament to their drive and character, and is befitting of the full and vocal recognition of their state government.”
Following their come-from-behind victory over Pittsford in last month’s Division I state hockey championship match, Jaffee introduced and passed a resolution (K1121) praising the Mounties for their historic achievement. She also invited the team to visit Albany in order to celebrate and be personally recognized for their accomplishments.
Today, the team was received by Jaffee on the floor of the State Assembly, where she publicly paid tribute to the squad’s athletic prowess, determination, and commitment to sportsmanship, as well as the leadership of the Mounties’ coaching staff and support of the players’ parents.
“The Mounties have shown all New Yorkers what the best of Rockland County can accomplish, and I am so extremely proud to represent them,” Jaffee added.
