"The Supreme Court's ruling on the Voting Rights Act is a dangerous precedent if not addressed swiftly by the Federal government. In the short term, the ruling has opened the door for discrimination and a reduction in voter participation. In the long term, its shortsightedness threatens to unravel the very fabric that makes our country the most sought after refuge for those seeking freedom. Hindering our citizens' ability to openly and freely vote in public elections is regressive and contrary to the principles that built our country. Further, and most egregious, is that without a new law protecting the voting rights of each and every citizen of our country, this void of policy makes a mockery of our military troops who continue to fight and die for freedoms around the globe."
