“Especially during the summer months, when donations are made infrequently but demand for blood remains high, it is very important that every eligible donor give the gift of life,” said Thiele. “I hope everyone who can donate will call for an appointment and I look forward to seeing you at the blood drive in August.”
According to Long Island Blood Services:
- Anyone between the ages of 17 to 76, in good health and weighing at least 110 lbs. can donate.
- Although 60 percent of Americans are eligible blood donors, only 5 percent donate nationwide and only 2 percent donate on Long Island.
- About 4 million people receive blood transfusions every year.
All donors will receive two tickets to a New York Mets game, courtesy of the Long Island Blood Services. You must schedule an appointment. To schedule an appointment, contact Assemblyman Thiele’s district office by calling (631) 537-2583.
