Thiele Takes Part In “Toys For Tots” Drive
Assemblyman sponsors holiday charity to give to local children
November 20, 2007
Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (R,I,C-Sag Harbor) today announced that his district office will be accepting donations for the annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve “Toys for Tots” program. This is the fifth year Thiele’s office has sponsored the event. Thiele’s office will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for children from Monday November 26, 2007 through Friday December 14, 2007. Donations may be dropped off at Thiele’s office between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 2302 Main Street in Bridgehampton. Toys can also be dropped off at the Center Moriches Free Public Library at 235 Main Street in Center Moriches. “I am very happy to be a part of this noble charity,” said Thiele. “The holidays are a time to give to those who are less fortunate, and this is a great opportunity for all of us to help our local children have a wonderful Christmas,” Thiele said. “I encourage residents to take part in the Toys for Tots program and drop off a new, unwrapped toy at my office.” The Toys for Tots charity was established in 1947 by the Marine’s Los Angeles Reserve Unit to collect and distribute toys to children whose parents were unable to provide them. The Marine Corps Reserve adopted the program and began collecting toys in nearly 200 communities nationwide. Today, the Marines distribute an average of 12.6 million toys to over 5 million children annually.
