Thiele Blasts Governor for His Blatant Continuation of Political Party Bias
Statement by Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (R,I,C,WF – Sag Harbor)
June 15, 2009
In a series of ten regional press releases, Governor Paterson recently announced that $94.9 million in federal stimulus funding, through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), would be allocated statewide for transportation and infrastructure projects. The releases include quotes from legislators within the districts that are receiving funding. The problem is that a recent appointee to the Obama administration was the only minority party member who was allowed to have a quote in the releases in order to express their appreciation for the much-needed aid; the remainder of the quotes was from Majority legislators or appointees. This blatant display of partisanship is appalling and should not be tolerated. We currently are facing a fiscal crisis, and rather than having a governor who is working toward relieving the financial burden on the citizens of New York, we have one who is too preoccupied playing party politics.
