Reminder – Assemblyman Thiele and Long Island Blood Services To Hold Blood Drive
August 18, 2009
Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (R,I,C,WF – Sag Harbor) and Long Island Blood Services will be holding a blood drive:
Wednesday, August 26, 2009
1:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Mastic-Moriches-Shirley Community Library
407 William Floyd Parkway, Shirley
“The summer is an especially hard time for blood banks because blood donations typically drop even though the need for blood remains constant,” said Thiele. “It is important to remember that one person’s blood donation can save up to three lives so I am encouraging all who are eligible to give the gift of life by donating blood today.”
According to Long Island Blood Services, you must:
- Bring a valid photo or signature identification
- Weigh at least 110 lbs.
- Be at least 16 years old (16-year-olds need parental consent, and those over 75 need a doctor’s note)
- Eat well and be hydrated prior to your appointment
- Not have gotten a tattoo within the past 12 months (unless applied in New Jersey)
Appointments are required if you plan on donating blood. To schedule an appointment, please contact Assemblyman Thiele’s district office at (631) 537-2583.
