Sensible Budget Cuts Spending While Providing A Much-Needed Increase In Funding For Schools
Statement by Assemblyman Gary D. Finch (R,C,I – Springport)
March 30, 2012
“This budget process, the most open and transparent that I have seen in years, has allowed us to enact a budget that cuts all-funds spending without tax increases. Furthermore, I have made the viability and efficacy of our schools my top priority throughout this budget negotiation process, and I am happy to say that we were able to restore vital education funding, with a 4.1 percent increase. In particular, we will provide a significant increase in funding for rural and high-needs schools. As schools across my district are struggling to remain open – Auburn Enlarged School District and those devastated by flooding in particular – state assistance is crucial to ensure that our children are getting the education they need to succeed.”
