May 13th is Mother’s Day, and with the holiday fast approaching, Assemblyman Gary D. Finch (R,C,I – Springport) would like to encourage women in New York to utilize the services provided by the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program.
“Survival rates continue to improve, but early detection is critical,” Finch stated. “Adelphi provides a wonderful service for women throughout the state, and I want to commend them for all that they do in protecting the health of our families.”
Women 40 and over are recommended to get a mammogram every one to two years. Those with a family history of breast cancer should start getting mammograms at an earlier age and should have them performed more often.
Adelphi’s free hotline has been in existence for 31 years and provides many vital services, including helping women find accredited mammography facilities and offering emotional support from trained volunteers, most of whom are breast cancer survivors. More than 100 highly-trained volunteers are available to offer emotional support, information and referrals.
