Finch: Casino Bill Won’t Make New York “Open For Business”
Statement by Assemblyman Gary D. Finch (R,C,I-Springport)
June 24, 2013
The inverse effects that are caused by picking winners and losers for the sake of expanding an economy are undeniable, and, in fact, anathema to the very essence of a free-market economy. Given this reality, I must question this latest push to expand casino gaming. Once again, a well-intentioned proposal to help a struggling economic region is structured in such a way that it is deliberately picking winners and losers. Due to the structure of this bill, Central New York, which should stand to gain, will be essentially cut out, and I cannot, in good conscience, support a measure that pointedly excludes a group of people it should benefit.
